LIFE IN PARA WURLIE.

Oh would that I were college bred

With choice words at command.

To paint the scene before me

Stretching out on every hand.

For here In Para Warlie

Rugged Nature holds her sway,

And limestone ridge and ti-tree

Stretches round to Hardwicke Bay.

Although Springtime has vanished

And Earth's coat is fading brown;

The scenes we view in solitude

Excel the sights of town.

For where things are artificial,

And all so tame and mild.

They can't compare in beauty

With Nature lone and wild.

Your city gents might find it hard

Through the rocks their bikes to steer.

But Nature, gave us better mounts

In the horse that knows no fear,

But will carry you o'er limestone

With a high and springing stride,

And gallop through the ti-tree.

Dodging round from side to side.

In town on banked up cycle tracks

You may see a fast run race,

But give to me a sturdy hack

And a kangaroo to chase.

A pleasant sense of danger

Seems to thrill you through and through,

As the limestones ring behind you;

In pursuit of the kangaroo.

You can fly those timber fences.

And never fear a fall

As you finish up a double

With a four foot limestone wall.

Then with your horse extended,

As you gallop o'er the plain

You forget that life has troubles,

And each joy a share of pain.

Even common station work,

As a sport deserves a place.

For mustering Lambs in fallen scrub

Is like a steeplechase.

The birds all seem to cheer you,

When you take a daring leap,

And if you fall, the she oaks

Will stand sighing o'er your sleep.

Those things make life worth living,

As i'm sure you'll all agree,

Although we have no musicians

And a play we never see,

But were face to face with Nature,

In her wild arid lonely state.

And admiring her vast mysteries

Contents us with our fate.

Warooka, August 13. An entertainment, the object of which was to provide funds for the purchase of priisea for the children attending Para Wurlie School, was held in the large room of Para Wurlie House on Friday evening, when a large audience was presided over by Mr. A. Klemm. Vocal and instrumental, number were rendered by Mrs. Ball, Misses Ball (3). Keightley (2) 1 Vigar, and Newbold, and Messrs. John Young, Harry Wills, and Robertson. Miss Newbold was deservedly encored for bar song, 'Silver Fish,' and so was Mr. Wills for 'Ta-ra-ra-boom-de-ay.' A vote of thanks was heartily accorded to Mr. W. H. Fuller Manager of Harward- Station, for the use of the room and for the trouble in erecting a platform, &e. The piano was kindly lent by Miss Hall, of Mitoolia Farm. After supper, which was provided by the schoolmistress, a large number stayed for a dance, which was kept up with spirit till daylight. The affair throughout was a great success.
